How Arizona and Texas Tech got here
Arizona has won five straight since its only loss at BYU, and the last three were by 21, 21 and 36: 34-7 over Cincinnati, 52-31 at West Virginia and 39-3 over Iowa State with Fifita throwing for 308 yards. Texas Tech was 6-0 and ranked eighth before last week's 37-24 loss at Cincinnati, the same Cincinnati team Arizona held to 7 points on October 3. That common opponent is the cleanest comparison on the board: Arizona beat the Bearcats by 27, Texas Tech lost to them by 13 a week later.

Noah Fifita vs Will Hammond: the quarterback gap that moved this line
Noah Fifita has 2,064 passing yards and 18 touchdowns through seven games for Arizona, and the Wildcats convert 54.7 percent of third downs, third in the country. The problem is who he is throwing to: Tre Spivey remains out, and Giovanni Richardson and Chris Hunter have both been dealing with injuries, so Arizona's top three receivers have all missed time (Covers, Pick and Parlays, October 30). Texas Tech's pass rush had six sacks against Arizona State two weeks ago, and that pressure against a thin receiver room is the Texas Tech case.
Will Hammond, who took over for the graduated Behren Morton, has 1,561 passing yards and 6 touchdowns, and Covers' JD Yonke built his Arizona pick around the view that Texas Tech is one-dimensional offensively. Running back J'Koby Williams has 619 yards. Texas Tech lost 37-24 at Cincinnati last week, giving up 255 rushing yards, and is 3-4 against the spread, 3-4 as a favorite of 3.5 or more.
