NBA MVP Odds 2026-27: Wembanyama Leads as SGA Chases a Three-Peat

NBA MVP Odds 2026-27: Wembanyama Leads as SGA Chases a Three-Peat

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has won the last two MVP awards, and he still isn't the favorite to win the next one. That job belongs to Victor Wembanyama, who finished as a first-time MVP finalist last season and enters 2026-27 as the shortest price on the board at every major sportsbook. With opening night on October 20, here is the full NBA MVP odds board, what each price implies and what history says about the top of the market.

In one sentence
NBA MVP odds as of October 3, 2026: Wembanyama is +175 to +210, Gilgeous-Alexander is +350 to +450 as he chases a third straight award, Nikola Jokic is +450 to +550 and Luka Doncic is +500 to +600, with a big gap before Giannis Antetokounmpo at +1000 to +1200.

NBA MVP odds 2026-27: the full board

Prices below are from bet365, BetMGM, DraftKings, Caesars, Hard Rock Bet and BetRivers. The typical price is the middle of the six books, and the best price is the biggest payout available. Futures prices drift apart more than game lines do, so it pays to check several sportsbooks before you bet.

Can Shai Gilgeous-Alexander win three straight MVPs?

Only three players have won three MVP awards in a row: Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain and Larry Bird. Gilgeous-Alexander would be the fourth. Voters tend to look for a new story after a player has won twice, which is part of why the market has him second even though he is the reigning winner. At +350 at most books, he is priced at about a 22% chance. If you think voter fatigue is overblown, the best number is +450 at Caesars.

Why Wembanyama is the MVP favorite

Wembanyama's case is simple: he is the one player the market thinks can still get meaningfully better, and he already finished in the top three last season. At +200 he is priced at about a 33% chance, far ahead of anyone else. That price leaves little room for error. A Spurs slide in the standings or a stretch of missed games would push it out fast, because of the rule below.

The 65-game rule
Players have to appear in at least 65 regular-season games to be eligible for MVP and most other major awards. Miss more than 17 games and, outside of a few narrow exceptions, you are out of the race no matter how good the numbers are. That makes injury history part of every MVP price, and it is the biggest risk for any favorite.

The rest of the MVP contenders

Nikola Jokic (+450 to +550)

A three-time winner (2021, 2022 and 2024) and a finalist again last season, Jokic is the safest bet to post MVP-level numbers. The question is always whether voters will give it to him again when his numbers look like his usual numbers. At +500 he is priced near 17%.

Luka Doncic (+500 to +600)

Doncic is priced right with Jokic. He has the scoring volume voters like, and his range across books is one of the tightest on the board, which tells you the market is fairly confident in where he belongs.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (+1000 to +1200)

A two-time winner (2019 and 2020) sitting alone in the next tier. There is a clear drop after the top four, and Antetokounmpo is the first name below it.

Longer shots

Anthony Edwards (+1500 to +2000), Jayson Tatum (+1500 to +2500) and Cade Cunningham (+2200 to +3000) make up the next group. The widest disagreement on the board is Tyrese Maxey, priced at +5000 at Caesars and +15000 at BetMGM. Jaylen Brown has the same kind of split, +5000 to +15000. Gaps that big usually mean one book hasn't moved its number in a while, which is exactly where shopping pays off.

How to bet NBA MVP odds

1
Get the best number
Wembanyama ranges from +175 to +210 and Maxey from +5000 to +15000. On a bet that sits all season, the extra payout is real money.
2
Price in availability
With the 65-game minimum, a player with an injury history carries extra risk. Ask whether your pick is likely to play 65 or more games before you bet.
3
Think about the story
MVP is a voted award. A great player on a team that underachieves, or one who has already won a few, can lose votes to a fresher story.
4
Keep it a small piece
Futures tie up your money until spring. Size each one so it doesn't crowd out your regular betting.
