Season-long bullpen numbers provide context, but they do not always describe the group available tonight. Relief usage in the previous series can materially change a manager’s options.

Build a daily availability picture

Review pitch counts, appearances on consecutive days and likely closer availability. Then compare those options with the opposing lineup and expected starter length.

Avoid single-stat conclusions

ERA, strikeout rate, walk rate and contact quality each tell a different part of the story. Combining them with current availability creates a more useful view than relying on one leaderboard.
