College Football Week 7 Recap 2026: Auburn and BYU Take Down No. 1 and No. 2

No. 1 Georgia lost 27-24 at home to unranked Auburn on a 34-yard field goal as time expired, and the Bulldogs closed as 19.5-point favorites. That night No. 8 BYU beat No. 2 Notre Dame 28-24 in Provo as a 10.5-point underdog, so the top two teams in the country lost on the same Saturday. College football Week 7 also had Florida winning 27-24 at No. 7 Texas, No. 14 Tennessee beating No. 6 Alabama 26-10 and No. 4 Ohio State ending No. 5 Indiana's 22-game winning streak, 19-15.

The college football Week 7 upsets
Auburn 27, No. 1 Georgia 24
Georgia closed at -19.5 at most books, with FanDuel as high as -20.5 earlier in the week and Auburn paying +800 to +980 on the moneyline. Gunner Stockton threw two interceptions, and after his 4-yard touchdown pass to London Humphreys tied the game 24-24 with 2:58 left, a late Georgia fumble gave Auburn the ball back. Alex McPherson hit a 34-yard field goal as time expired, and the 51 total points also sent the game over the closing total of 50.5. Per ESPN research cited by Yahoo Sports, Georgia, Alabama and Texas had not all lost on the same day since October 26, 1996.
BYU 28, No. 2 Notre Dame 24
Notre Dame closed at -10.5 with a total of 47.5, and BYU was +320. Bear Bachmeier scored four touchdowns four different ways: one passing, two rushing and one receiving. His 6-yard touchdown pass to Walker Lyons on third and goal put BYU ahead with 1:47 left. Notre Dame converted a fourth-and-5 from the BYU 14 with 10 seconds left, and C.J. Carr's last pass fell incomplete in the end zone as time ran out. At the closing moneylines Notre Dame was about a 77% favorite once the margin is removed, and the pregame numbers are in our Notre Dame vs. BYU market read.
Florida 27, No. 7 Texas 24
Texas opened near -9.5 and was bet up to -13.5 by kickoff, so Florida backers got four extra points and did not need any of them. Trammel Jones Jr. made his first career start and went 22 of 35 with two touchdown passes to Lacota Dippre and no turnovers. Texas led 17-3 late in the second quarter, Jadan Baugh's go-ahead touchdown made it 27-17 with 6:22 left, and a strip sack of Arch Manning with 1:58 left sealed it. Florida sacked Manning five times and held Texas to 272 yards. See the Florida vs. Texas preview for how the line moved during the week.
No. 14 Tennessee 26, No. 6 Alabama 10
Alabama opened as a 7-point road favorite at Circa and closed at -7.5, with Tennessee at +260. DeSean Bishop ran 32 times for 159 yards and two touchdowns, Cooper Ranvier kicked four field goals, and Tennessee forced four Alabama turnovers and scored off three of them. Alabama finished with 201 total yards and went 2 of 13 on third down, and the 36 total points stayed well under a closing total of 50.5 that had opened at 55. The Alabama vs. Tennessee breakdown has the pregame numbers.
No. 4 Ohio State 19, No. 5 Indiana 15
The favorite won this one, but it cost Ohio State its quarterback. Ohio State closed at -3 (-2.5 at some books) with a total of 49.5. Julian Sayin threw touchdown passes to Bo Jackson and Jeremiah Smith before leaving with an injury, and coach Ryan Day said he will probably miss several weeks. Indiana scored on a 19-yard Josh Hoover pass to Nick Marsh plus a two-point conversion to get within 19-15 but could not finish. The loss ended Indiana's 22-game winning streak, the longest in the country, and its 19-game home streak. More in the Ohio State vs. Indiana preview.
No. 3 Miami 43, Florida State 35 (2OT)
Miami was a 20.5-point favorite and Florida State covered easily. The game went to overtime tied 28-28, Florida State scored first in the opening overtime on a 20-yard Ashton Daniels pass to Duce Robinson, and Javian Mallory answered with a 25-yard run. In the second overtime Darian Mensah hit Malachi Toney from 3 yards out and Miami converted the two-point try. Florida State's last play, a pass into the end zone, was ruled an interception by Bryce Fitzgerald after review. Regulation ended 28-28, under the 57.5 total, but books grade totals with overtime included, so the 78 final points went over.
What college football Week 7 meant for bettors
The underdog moneyline was the bet of the day. The table below shows the closing price on each big underdog and the win chance the market gave it once the bookmaker margin is removed from both sides.
| Underdog | Closing moneyline | No-vig win chance | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auburn at Georgia | +800 | 10.7% | Won 27-24 |
| Florida at Texas | +400 | 19.2% | Won 27-24 |
| BYU vs. Notre Dame | +320 | 22.8% | Won 28-24 |
| Tennessee vs. Alabama | +260 | 26.6% | Won 26-10 |
| Indiana vs. Ohio State | +124 | 42.8% | Lost 19-15 |
| Florida State at Miami | +900 | 9.6% | Lost 43-35 (2OT) |
A $100 four-team moneyline parlay on Auburn, Florida, BYU and Tennessee paid about 680 to 1, a return of roughly $68,040. Multiply the four no-vig win chances and the market rated that combination at about 1 in 800, so nobody should read Saturday as proof that big underdogs are a good blind bet. Florida State is the other side of that lesson: the Seminoles covered +20.5 by 12.5 points and still lost the game, so a +900 moneyline ticket on them lost while a +20.5 spread ticket won easily.
Totals split 4-6 toward the under. The four overs came from the two late shootouts (Miami needed two overtimes and Texas Tech scored 53) plus Georgia-Auburn by half a point and BYU-Notre Dame. The six unders included Ohio State-Indiana and Ole Miss-Missouri, which both finished with 34 total points. The college football playoff picture after Week 7
Miami (6-0) is the only team that started the day in the top three and is still unbeaten, and CBS Sports wrote that the Hurricanes have a clear path to No. 1 when the new poll comes out on Sunday. BYU now owns a win over a top-two team, and Texas Tech handled Arizona State 53-25 as a 16.5-point favorite. Georgia, Notre Dame and Indiana each took their first loss of the season, and how far each one falls in Sunday's poll will shape every playoff projection for the next month. Futures prices for all of these teams will move before Tuesday. Our CFP predictions and national championship odds pages will be updated with the new numbers.
An honest lesson from Week 7
Big spreads are not the same as safe picks. Georgia at -19.5 and Miami at -20.5 asked each favorite to win by three touchdowns in a rivalry game, and both fell short of the number: one lost outright, the other won by eight in double overtime. Rivalry games, a backup quarterback situation or a road game against a ranked team can all shrink a margin that looks comfortable on paper. When we look at a big favorite, we ask what has to go right for it to cover, not just whether it will win.
